Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The village white 2020 3 Miradas Vino de Pueblo shows hints of youth and a tender profile with aromas of apples and green almonds. It aged under flor in concrete tinaja (amphora) for eight months. It's mild and silky with medium ripeness at 13.5% alcohol and with good freshness and balance. 40,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2021. It should put on some weight with a little more time in bottle.

Features

Description

Alvear 3 Miradas Vino de Pueblo is a unique expression of Spanish viticulture, specifically from the region of Montilla-Moriles, south of Córdoba. This wine is distinguished by being a single varietal, made entirely from the Pedro Ximénez grape. The grapes come from a combination of plots between the Riofrío Alto and Cerro Macho estates, planted in 1960, located on albariza soils, characteristic of the Montilla-Moriles region. These soils are composed mainly of limestone and marl, being poor in organic matter and of simple mineral composition. The consistency is crumbly, which is crucial for water retention in an area where rainfall is less than 600 litres per year.
The particularity of the albariza soil is its capacity to retain water, a vital aspect in a region with extremely high temperatures and irregular rainfall. In addition, its good drainage capacity prevents the accumulation of water and salts, which is essential for the health of the vines. This combination of soil factors contributes significantly to the quality and distinctive character of the Pedro Ximénez grapes used in the production of Alvear 3 Miradas Vino de Pueblo.

Winemaking

The winemaking process is a reflection of tradition and innovation. The grapes are destemmed and pressed in a horizontal pneumatic press. The fermentation of the must takes place spontaneously in "tinajas", traditional cement amphorae with a capacity of 4,800 litres. This process stands out for its respect for the terroir and its focus on the pure expression of the grape.
As for ageing, Alvear 3 Miradas Vino de Pueblo spends eight months under"velo de flor", a technique characteristic of the region that adds complexity and uniqueness to the wine. This ageing method contributes to the creation of a distinctive aromatic and taste profile.

Taste

Alvear 3 Miradas Vino de Pueblo presents itself with an attractive bright golden yellow colour, a visual prelude to the sensory experience it offers. On the nose, this wine displays medium intensity, revealing a rich and diverse aromatic palette. Notes of yellow fruit intertwine with saline aromas, providing an intriguing blend of sweetness and freshness. Citrus fruits are present, along with nuances of dried fruits, adding a layer of complexity. In addition, mineral elements stand out, underlining the influence of the terroir on its aromatic profile.
On tasting, the wine enters dry on the palate, confirming the promise of its aromas with pronounced minerality. Citrus flavours linger, complemented by a distinctive salinity that enhances its character. The wine's good acidity balances its structure, ensuring a harmonious and refreshing taste experience. The medium intensity on the palate allows all these nuances to be appreciated without overwhelming, making Alvear 3 Miradas Vino de Pueblo an exquisite and complex choice, ideal for wine lovers looking for a rich and nuanced sensory experience.
