Description

Benoît Lahaye Grand Cru Millésime is a sublime champagne made only in the vintages that Lahaye considers the best. This wine is a reflection of the particular character of each vintage in its Bouzy terroir, coming from the blend of two of its best old parcels: Monts de Tauxières (planted in 1966) and Haut des Argentières (planted in 1960).

Winemaking

Benoît Lahaye Grand Cru Millésime is composed of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, vinified separately. The Pinot Noir brings a vinous tension and depth of red fruits, while the Chardonnay contributes complex, ripe notes on the nose, such as baked apple pie, puff pastry, and a balsamic background of menthol, white flowers, fennel and aniseed. After an hour of opening, the wine reveals fresh notes of acidic red fruits.
The winemaking of Benoît Lahaye Grand Cru Millésime involves 10 months of barrel ageing, followed by careful blending and three additional years of bottle ageing. This meticulous winemaking and ageing process results in a wine that never disappoints, marrying tradition and commitment to the vineyard in each cuvée. With an alcohol content of 12%, this Bouzy Grand Cru wine, made with grapes from 45-year-old vines from the renowned Monts de Tauxières and Haut des Argentieres estates, is a testament to Benoît Lahaye's commitment to excellence and authentic expression of terroir.

Taste

The taste of Benoît Lahaye Grand Cru Millésime is a harmonious and surprising combination of ripeness and freshness. On the palate, the wine is powerful and refined, with a silky, explosive texture and extraordinary breadth. The Pinot Noir clearly marks the palate with notes of red fruits, a very direct acidity and marked notes of chalk and chalky soil, offering a vertical, fresh and direct taste experience. This champagne presents a fine and elegant bubble, with chalky bitterness that complements food, making this wine an excellent choice to accompany seafood, for example.
